Hellow Fellows!
You know that many of us spend lot of our computing time on the internet and most of that time we use Firefox tabs to open all our favorite sites and services inside Firefox right?, yes, Gmail inside Ff, Yahoo inside Ff, ebay inside Ff, Banking inside Ff ect. ect. ect… With all these favorites inside Firefox, How about opening Firefox inside Firefox? Not bad ha? and its really easy too! just type in this url in a new tab in Firefox and there you go! Firefox inside Firefox!
chrome://browser/content/browser.xul
Disclaimer: I guarantee that this will work with Firefox. But I have no responsibility of any damage that cause Internet Explorer users by Using this with IE to Open Firefox inside IE ![]()

A very cool feature. But, what can we do with this feature?
April 12, 2007 at 1:09 pm
Actually, this means that instead of opening a new window to do searches on a different topic than my first window, I can open up a sub-tab in order to keep everything within a single window.
April 12, 2007 at 1:09 pm
Try pasting the url in the address bar of the new FF. Firefox inside Firefox inside Firefox inside Firefox inside Firefox inside Firefox inside Firefox…
April 12, 2007 at 1:11 pm
cool indeed but so pointless.
April 12, 2007 at 1:14 pm
this isn’t really a feature, its just a side effect of the fact that firefox’s UI is written completely in XML.
chrome://browser/content/browser.xul is the url that firefox.exe opens when you run it. if you change it (mozilla firefox\chrome\browser.jar\content\browser.xul), you can change the interface of firefox however you like.
April 12, 2007 at 1:21 pm
I tried the many Firefoxs (Plural?) and the CPU usage went up high.

April 12, 2007 at 2:33 pm
This ‘trick’ is STUPID because it doesn’t work on IE!!
I want Firefox in IE because then it will be more stable and more secure!!
September 5, 2009 at 11:14 pm
You can use the ActiveX trick to run Firefox in IE. It won’t make IE more stable, though. It might give it a memory leak.
April 12, 2007 at 2:37 pm
Wow kool trick
April 12, 2007 at 2:39 pm
This won’t work in IE (not even testing it, really sure about it) since “chrome://” is not recognized by IE …
April 12, 2007 at 2:40 pm
nice!
April 12, 2007 at 2:41 pm
Do the same thing in other Mozilla / Netscape / Sea Monkey browsers and see the browser render itself within it.
April 12, 2007 at 2:49 pm
Very cool trick! You can do this again in the new Firefox and you have FF in FF in FF.
And Again and you’ve got FF in FF in FF in FF. And so on!
Thats so funny! XD
(Sorry if I made mistakes, i’m from germany)

I’ve tried it here, but it didn’t work
When i double clicked in the internal firefox (to create a new tab), a tab got created in the main firefox and in the internal firefox.
When I went to an url in the second tab in the internal firefox tab, firefox opened it in the first tab.
I run firefox 2.0.0.3 on linux
April 12, 2007 at 4:09 pm
LMAO that’s cool even though it’s pointless
April 12, 2007 at 4:15 pm
Well for all those guys who are trying this on IE – too bad. Can’t imagine people can be so dumm!!
This is a feature based on FF, IE engin works totally diffrent way i.e., it will not work.
Any how i really don’t see use of this as in browsers like deepnet and avant you can open Multiple tabs in multiple groups anyways.

April 12, 2007 at 4:32 pm
Or even better add http://www.google.com and Google will rocket from 64.13% of the search engine market to 100%. Buy GOOG now!!!
April 12, 2007 at 4:53 pm
Nice one. But the only use I can see for this is grouping sites into categories. If you visit a lot of sites at once you could group all your “A” type sites in a Ff browser under one tab and you “B” types in another…

You could always surf in tabs….it keeps everything in the same window without going OTT on resources.
April 12, 2007 at 5:13 pm
Also for those times where a site demands IE, theres an IE Tab extension which allows you to right click and “open in IE tab”….which uses the IE engine to render in a new Ff tab.

FYI– The abbreviation you are seeking is “etc.,” as in the short version of the word “etcetera,” which is from the latin words “et cetera,” meaning “and others of the same kind.” I used to make the same ‘ect’ mistake myself many years ago, learning the origin of the word helped me remember.

You see… I regularly have 5~10 firefox windows open at the same time (each with upwards of 10 tabs inside them)… The last time I had to quit firefox (I usually hibernate instead of shutting down my PC), I had 105 open tabs. this is great, is there some way to open a new ff window in this manner but have the new window be in safe mode? (or some other slightly dumbed down version?) With all the addons I have, this procedure makes ff crash every time, but a new window that doesn’t load the addons would still be great. also, is there a way to make it such that changes made to the sub – window would not result in changes to the master window on restart?
June 2, 2007 at 6:32 pm
I find it amusing that all these people complain about it being “pointless” because it crashes their browsers, cause that’s pretty damn lame, to be honest. If my PC can handle it, I imagine most can. I opened 5 Firefox windows (skinned) within each other on Vista Ultimate with 1gb of RAM and an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Processor without the slightest hint of lag.
PS. Before I get flamed myself, this post is not to flame posters, only to point out that some are flaming the original topic because of their problems.
